Because I guess NASCAR racing is not filled with enough B.S. already?
Bruton Smith says NASCAR needs mandatory cautions – ESPN.
PARTA, Ky. — Speedway Motorsports Inc. chairman Bruton Smith said NASCAR needs to implement mandatory cautions, or race stoppages, to bring more excitement to the races.
“Call it what you want, but you’ve got to have caution flags,” Smith said Saturday before the Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway. “That creates excitement. You can’t just sit there with nothing happening. It ruins the event. It’s damaging to our sport.”
Cautions flags and caution laps are down this year in NASCAR. Many races this season have produced long green-flag runs without a lot of passing up front.
Doing that would really cement NASCAR as a WWE level of sport. I don’t really understand why NASCAR won’t just shorten the races, or even try doing a sprint race format. Either option would have the desired effect of making it more exciting without turning it into a freakshow.

I totally agree that it would be silly to go that route. I also don’t want shorter races, but I would not be against a half of the race – break – other half of the race format.
